Going Green

There are lots of opportunities to make your office greener; from adjusting your office's lighting system through the types of office supplies you choose and use. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Place a recycling container in various locations throughout the office including central areas, staff rooms and near the printer.

  • Empty the recycling boxes regularly and organise bottle/can returns.

  • Encourage staff to use mugs, glasses, dishes and cutlery rather than disposables.

  • Make sure your office has at least one real plant in it. They're aesthetically pleasing and great for recycling the air. Many of our products are available with planter boxes including our tambour cabinets and sliding door cabinets.

  • Make sure your office is being cleaned using green products that are not damaging to the environment.

  • Source and purchase quality furniture options that are built to last for many years rather than buying “cheap” products that will end up landfill within a few years. Several of OLP’s products have been Blue Tick and/or Green Tick AFRDI certified. This means the consumer is going to get a product that has been tested for durability, will last a long time, and when the end of life comes can be recycled or remanufactured.

  • Look for and purchase products that can be recycled. Many of OLP’s products are designed so they can be easily disassembled for component re-use or recycling.

  • Look for and purchase products that have been ethically sourced. In meeting AFRDI’s Green Tick standards, OLP has demonstrated the ethical sourcing of raw materials and labour, the responsible use of water and energy during manufacture, waste minimisation, the longevity of the product and recyclability. AFRDI Green Tick Certified products are also deemed compliant with the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and Formaldehyde Minimisation credits in Green Star rating tools.

  • Recycle used office supplies whenever possible.

  • Find a place to recycle used recyclable batteries and mobile phones.

  • Turn off your computer when not in use.

  • Turn the lights off in rooms when they're not in use.

  • Turn off electronics, lighting, and heat every evening.

  • Make sure your heating and air conditioning systems are serviced regularly and working properly.

These tips are just a start to making your office more green, but there are plenty of other solutions out there.
